The Challenge Overview
The Spidie King’s Downhill Challenge is here to see who can log the most downhill footage at Spider Mountain over ten weeks. The event is divided into five two-week periods, each offering a prize from our partner bike shops for the top rider. The ultimate grand prize will go to the participant with the highest total descent footage after the ten weeks. The challenge kicks off on Friday, July 19th, and runs through September 26th.
Objective of the Challenge
The objective for this challenge is to record the most downhill footage at Spider Mountain over each 2-week period. Speed is NOT a factor! The number recorded will be elevation loss, otherwise known as descent. Please note that for a period to be added to your total, you MUST reach a minimum of 7000 ft of descent every 2 weeks. That’s about 20 laps at Spider Mountain.
When the Challenge Starts
The challenge starts Friday, July 19th. Results will be recorded and the prize will be distributed at the end of each period. The periods are listed below.
- Period 1: July 19th to August 1st
- Period 2: August 2nd to August 15th
- Period 3: August 16th to August 29th
- Period 4: August 30th to September 12th
- Period 5: September 13th to September 26th
Cost
This challenge is completely FREE! All you need is a lift ticket or season pass to Spider Mountain.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for each period to the person who gets the most footage of descent that period. These prizes will come from our partnered bike shops. The grand prize will be awarded to the person with the most footage of descent over the 5 periods. For a period to be added to an overall score, the rider must hit 7,000 ft (20 laps) during that time frame. The overall winner gets to be named the King of the Mountain and take home the grand prize. Stay tuned for the grand prize reveal.

How to Record Your Progress
- The first step is to create a TrailForks account if you do not have one. This account must be associated with your personal email. If you do not have one, click here or the link below.
- The second step is to start logging your rides at Spider Mountain come Friday, July 19th. You can start at a later date but we’d recommend racking up your score as soon as possible.
- After each ride, share your results with [email protected] using the subject line “Spidie King’s Downhill Challenge”. It’s a good idea to also track your results to make sure you hit 7,000 ft of descent (20 laps) every period.
- Keep riding at Spider Mountain as much as you can over the 10-week challenge to get the highest score you can!
Other Things to Note
- All recorded rides must be done at Spider Mountain. We will not take rides that were recorded elsewhere.
- Ride logs must be sent in after each ride is completed to help track results. Rides turned in later will not be added to your total.
- 7,000 ft is the minimum for each period. This does not mean you can’t keep riding. We encourage you to try to get as much as possible!
- Speed is not a factor! It’s about total elevation loss.
- You must have your account linked to your personal email on TrailForks to promote a fair competition.
- There is NO UPHILL ASCENT!! The lift must be used for your rides.
Anyone can join! Happy Trails everyone!!
